In Search of Solitude
Day 4 (Pamplona to Puente de Reina)
Distance: 16.6 miles (26.7KM)
Time: 5 hours, 11 minutes
“Solitude is the place of purification.” —Martin Buber (German Philosopher)
The first couple days on the Camino have focused heavily upon the physical and social aspects of the journey. I’m finding it very difficult to experience the spiritual aspects of the journey. Yesterday’s conclusion amid the hustle and bustle of Pamplona did not offer a spiritual haven to this tired, longing soul.
Today, I left early from Pamplona. I had to escape the noisy, hectic city. I wanted to enjoy the cool and clear morning air. However, most importantly, I was seeking solitude. I wanted to be alone during today’s journey. And just maybe, I could begin to uncover the spiritual riches of the Camino de Santiago.
My soul enjoyed today.
Whereas my feet are wondering why we are not simply driving from point A to point B.
Lesson of the Day: A pilgrim is allowed to be selfish if they long only to be in the presence of God.
